Garden FAQ

Is there a fee to reserve a garden box?
Yes, there is a non-refundable annual fee of $15. Alternatively, you can donate a portion of your produce to the Wilmot Family Resource Centre food bank program.
What are my responsibilities as a gardener?
Each gardener is responsible for maintaining their own garden box throughout the gardening season (May to October). This includes regular weeding, watering, and harvesting. If your garden box is not maintained, the Garden Manager may reassign it after reasonable attempts to contact you.
What happens if I can't maintain my garden box to the end of the season?
If you're unable to continue maintaining your box due to a move or other circumstances, please notify the Garden Manager as soon as possible. The Garden Manager will arrange for someone else to take over the box if possible. You may also recommend someone to take over your plot.
Are there any restrictions on what I can plant?
Yes, gardeners are prohibited from planting illegal, invasive plants or perennials. Please ensure your plants do not creep outside your garden box. Tall plants should be placed in a way that avoids casting shade on neighboring plots.
Can I use chemical fertilizers or pesticides in the garden?
No, this is an organic garden. Please consult the Garden Project Manager for a list of acceptable organic fertilizers and pest repellents.
Can children be in the garden?
Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied and supervised by an adult at all times while in the garden.
How do I dispose of waste?
Please dispose of all organic waste in the yard waste bins or trailer. Non-organic waste should be placed in the garbage container or removed from the site. Recyclable materials, such as water bottles or bedding plant containers, should be taken home and recycled.
Are there tools and resources available for gardeners?
Yes, all gardeners have access to shared garden tools and resources. Gardeners are responsible for returning any borrowed hand tools and must treat all resources, such as tools, the shed, and water barrels, with care. If any tools or resources are damaged or missing, please inform the Garden Project Manager.
Who is responsible for injuries or lost property in the garden?
Fellowship Bible Church and the Wilmot Family Resource Centre do not accept responsibility for any injuries or loss of property while using the garden, playground, or other facilities on the property. While we take every precaution, by using these facilities, you agree to release FBC and WFRC staff and volunteers from any liability related to injuries or damage to personal property.
